Welcome to the Cathedral of St. Peter

Most Reverend Thomas G. Doran, D.D., J.C.D.,
Bishop of Rockford

Cathedral of St. Peter is a Roman Catholic Church whose mission is that of Jesus Christ: the conversion of sinners and the salvation of souls. This is accomplished by preaching the Gospel, celebrating the Sacraments and evangelizing the world around us.

Prayer for a New Bishop

Good and Gracious God, by your providence you have given the Church of
Rockford good shepherds throughout its history.

As our Bishop Thomas retires, we ask that you give him peace and happiness for
all the good he has done in your name.

And we humbly plead that You, Heavenly Father, will send us a new shepherd,
a bishop who will continue the good work his predecessors have achieved.

Grant us a shepherd who will preach the Word joyfully, teach the faith fearlessly,
celebrate the sacraments reverently, doing all in a spirit of love and compassion,
for the unborn who have no voice, for the poor who are often forgotten, for the
young who seek guidance, for the sick who need healing, for the aged
who yearn for hope, and for all your faithful people who come
together as one Body in Christ to profess, one Lord, one faith,
one baptism, one Church.

Inspired by Mary Immaculate, our patron,
we ask this through Christ our Lord,
in the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

FREE Youth Day with Dr. Scott Hahn at Mundelein Seminary

April 14, 2012

Once again the Institute on Religious Life cordially invites youth (ages 13-25) to the Saturday (April 14) session of the 2012 IRL National Meeting, at the beautiful campus of Mundelein Seminary. The Saturday session is completely free (lunch included) for young people who register in advance.

Because of the vital importance of the Eucharist in the life and mission of the Church, the theme of our 2012 IRL National Meeting will be “Holy, Holy Holy, Lord God of Hosts: The Sacred Liturgy as a Foretaste of Heaven.” Co-sponsored with the Liturgical Institute at the University of St. Mary of the Lake, this event will investigate the cosmic and eschatological character of the Church’s rich liturgical heritage.

On Saturday, Dr. Scott Hahn will give a morning talk at the general session, and also give a workshop for youth only in the afternoon. There will be other fine speakers and presenters who will help us come to a greater understanding of the mystery of the Sacred Liturgy in living lives of holiness.

Consider joining the 300+ young people who come each year from as far away as Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan and Nebraska. This is an opportunity for youth group to have a deeply enriching and life-transforming experience.

Registration is required to attend this special day. Space is limited so send in your registration as soon as possible.
